Sesham Kazhchayil (1983)

Embedded with mystery and suspense, this emotionally charged drama delves into the fluctuating fortunes in the life of Lathika, a bright and loving young woman from an impoverished background. K. P. R. Varma, a widower and wealthy businessman is deeply troubled by the misbehaviour of his young son, Shankara Mohan who keeps getting himself expelled from all the prestigious residential schools he gets sent to. Gauging that the young boy is acting out due to his secret yearning for the love and care of his mother, Varma is advised to remarry. However, Varma decides to hire Lathika as an instructor for Shankara Mohan, who initially troubles his teacher, but soon grows very fond of her. As part of his education, Lathika enrolls Shanku as she lovingly calls her student, for swimming lessons under Jagadish, an experienced instructor. Jagadish is in a relationship with Elizabeth, a wealthy young woman who is very possessive of him. Over a period of time, Shanku's behaviour improves drastically and everyone is happy. In the meantime, Lathika slowly begins falling in love with Jagadish, who responds positively. Their relationship deeply impacts Shanku, who is extremely possessive of Lathika and does not wish to share her attention with anyone else. Then, in a mysterious and shocking turn of events, Lathika is found dead, having drowned in a nearby lake. Was it an accident or murder? Were Jagadish's intentions towards Lathika true and pure? What will the police investigation into the death reveal? How will Lathika's absence impact Shanku's state of mind?
