A local temple grows to fame, as the impoverished people expressing their wishes to the deity, find them being fulfilled.
Coming to hear of this, a disbelieving DIG of Police instructs his team to investigate, but ends up frustrated when they themselves become believers and devotees. He then assigns this case to Ravi Sharma, an atheist, with hopes of apprehending the suspect, a CBI Officer, Krishna, who works with the Economics Offenses Wing.
Krishna publicly exposes many high-profile cases, including the wealthy Ponnusamy a.k.a. Padmanath. This public humiliation leaves Ponnusamy paralyzed and enrages his daughter, Subbalakshmi. She swears to avenge this humiliation and attempts to ensnare Krishna in a web of lies and deceit.
The police with no leads, continue to be baffled by repeated sightings of a caped crusader, who appears to have superpowers.
Will they be able to tie in Kanthaswamy as Krishna in disguise? Or will they let the unidentified force fulfilling wishes, continue to work his magic?
The satellite rights of the film were bagged by Sun TV. The film was given a "U" certificate by the Indian Censor Board.
The film, initially described as a "hilarious comedy", was rumoured to be a remake of the Hollywood cult hit, "The Breakfast Club", however Susi Ganesan has claimed that the film has a more 'Robin Hood' feel to it.
In November 2007, the shooting was halted temporarily due to an accident that occurred at the shooting spot at the Chennai Boat Club. Cameraman Ekambaram was canning the shots as per director Susi Ganesan's instructions when a pole erected on the sets unexpectedly fell on the director's head resulting in an injury.
Each invitation had cost about Rs. 15,000, making it the most expensive invitation in Indian film history.
The film was later dubbed into Hindi as "Shiva - The Superhero" and does not feature the song 'Meow Meow'.
The film was dubbed and simultaneously released as "Mallana" in Telugu.
The film has seven songs composed by Devi Sri Prasad. For the first time, Vikram has sung most of the songs in this movie.
