Australian actress and film producer Nicole Mary Kidman, was born on 20 June 1967 at Honolulu, United States to Australian parents Janelle Ann and Antony David Kidman. Her ancestry included Irish, Scottish, and English heritage. She has a Hawaiian name Hōkūlani as she was raised at Honolulu and loved dancing ballet as much as she liked drama and mime in her school days. Kidman eventually dropped out of high school to pursue acting full-time and landed her first role at the age of 16 in the 1983 Australian holiday favorite Bush Christmas. Her next venture with Tom Cruise brought her more recognition in the racetrack romance Days of Thunder. In 1988, Kidman appeared in Emerald City which bought her international recognition for her exemplary acting. Nicole had co-starred with former classmate and friend Naomi Watts and Thandie Newton in the Australian independent film 'Flirting' which had won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Film. Nicole had starred in the 1997 action-thriller The Peacemaker as White House nuclear expert Dr. Julia Kelly, opposite George Clooney which was a box office success. Kidman received her second Golden Globe Award, for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, as well as many other acting awards and nominations. She was the first Australian actress to win the Best Actress Academy Award. Kidman won critical praise for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in Stephen Daldry's The Hours, which stars Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore, and the movie went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Her performance in the musical Moulin Rouge! (2001) earned her a second Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy or Musical and her first nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She was first married to her co-star Tom Cruise for 11 years and adopted two children Isabella Jane and Connor Antony after they had separated due to career conflicts. She is currently married to country singer Keith Urban with whom she has a daughter Sunday Reed and second daughter Faith Margaret Kidman Urban through surrogacy. Kidman's performance in the 2016 film 'Lion' had earned her numerous nominations for prestigious awards including her first nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
