This evocative family-oriented drama revolves around Hari Das, an intelligent young man from a village known as Ottapalam. Despite growing up under impoverished circumstances, Hari Das works hard to keep improving upon his knowledge and finally succeeds in becoming an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer.
When he becomes the Collector of the nearby town, he travels back to his humble beginnings. There he meets Sudharma, a young woman who used to be his student, and is one of the teachers in the tutorial where he used to teach.
At home, his mother and two siblings – Sudhakaran, his younger brother, and Shoba, his sister still live under heavy financial strain. Hari Das is slated to marry Rashika, his childhood sweetheart. However, her father, Sekharan Nair's political leanings begin to cause trouble for Hari, who is uncompromisingly honest and straightforward.
When Shoba gets into trouble, Hari is forced to sacrifice his own wishes for her welfare. Slowly, but surely, his own younger brother, Sudhakaran becomes his enemy. Will Hari Das be forced to compromise his values for the sake of his family?
