Much against Jayalakshmi's advice, her elder sister Janaki agrees to marry Krishna, a sincere man who works as a clerk in a government office. While they settle down into a happy married life, Jayalakshmi struggles because there is no offer that can fulfil her desire, and she remains unmarried.

In order to resolve this problem, Krishna and Janaki decide to take the assistance of Mukherjee, Krishna's best friend. He pretends to be the sole heir of a large inheritance and gets close to Jayalakshmi, but then reveals that he has decided to sacrifice his inheritance for the sake of love.
