Where did you watch this movie?

Embedded with mystery and suspense, this supernatural fantasy thriller intricately depicts three parallel stories about three people affected by death in similar ways. All of them have been through hardship and suffered loss in their lives, and now are grappling with issues of communicating with the dead. This insightful tale primarily follows the life of American factory worker, George, who is able to communicate with the dead and who has worked professionally as a clairvoyant, but no longer wants to communicate with the dead. French television journalist, Marie, who survives a near-death experience during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami is haunted by the trauma and needs to feel clarity about the extraordinary experiences she has had to endure. British twins Marcus and Jason (played by Frankie and George McLaren), who are deeply connected with each other and need each other's presence to be able to navigate through the trials and travails in life. Will George find it within himself to open up to his special gift and find some much needed answers for the others so that they may have clarity, peace and hope to go on with their lives?

Revealing Mistakes
When Marcus is watching YouTube videos, the two videos he clicks on show the same number of views as well as the same video description.

Character Error
While showing the visitors around Charles Dickens' home the guide refers to his novel The Mystery of Edward Drood, when the correct title is The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Character Error
The movie is set in early 2005, but Marie claims François Mitterrand died over ten years ago. In fact, Mitterrand died in January 1996.

Continuity
Throughout the film, it is apparent that Marcus is played by two boys. In many scenes, he clearly has his left ear pierced (although no earring is worn, the hole is very distinctive). In other shots, most notably, during the "subway/underground" scene, he has no piercing.

Crew/Equipment Visible
In two scenes the Boom Mic is visible: between Marcus and a psychic and between Marcus and his reading by George.

Crew/Equipment Visible
When Marie is walking down the stairs with the psychic in Switzerland, you can see a cameraman cut across the path in the background, the shot shortly after is from his angle.

Errors in Geography
When Marie goes to the clinic to Switzerland, the mountain road is not in Switzerland but in France. The security sticks along the roads are French ones (white and red). The Swiss ones are white and black.

Factual Mistake
The Tube station where Markus narrowly misses a terrorist bombing is incorrectly identified as Charing Cross Station. None of the July 7 bombings took place anywhere near Charing Cross. The external shot of the station was taken of the Liverpool Street station where one of the bombs actually did explode on a train which had just left the station. The sign on the exterior was digitally altered to Charing Cross.

Factual Mistake
The name of the show hosted by Marie Lelay (Cécile De France) is misspelled : the panel behind her reads "Fenêtre sur l'évènement" (Window on the event) instead of "Fenêtre sur l'événement".

Audio/Video Mismatch
After George speaks to the receptionist at the hotel where Marie is staying, the receptionist resumes typing. However, nothing moves or changes on her computer monitor, which is in full view to the audience.

Miscellaneous
When Marie visits the hospice to get the information on near-death experiences, the wallpaper on the receptionist's computer shows a Windows 7 image (icebergs on the shore) rather than one from Windows XP, which one would expect for a movie set in 2005.

Miscellaneous
When getting back from their tsunami adventure, Marie and Didier are picked up by a Mercedes-Benz S-Class (model W221) at the airport. However, the W221 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show in the autumn of 2005 and wasn't in production until the beginning of 2006, almost a year after the Indian Ocean tsunami. Moreover, the model in the movie is the face-lift version launched in 2009 as MY2010 (check the LED taillights).

Miscellaneous
The film is set in 2005, yet a poster for The Fourth Kind can be seen on the side of a bus when Jason leaves the pharmacy. The Fourth Kind was released in 2009.
Trivia:
Several biographies describe how Clint Eastwood was stranded offshore in the ocean several days after his Navy training plane crashed. The experience is probably what helped him film the tsunami scene in this movie.

The outside scenes of the London Underground feature Liverpool St Station which is at the eastern edge of the City of London, with the signage digitally altered to make it appear to be Charing Cross. Charing Cross actually has only one above-ground entrance to the tube network, on Trafalgar Square just across from Nelson's Column.

For a time it seemed that Matt Damon would be unable to appear in the film due to his commitment to The Adjustment Bureau (2011) so he suggested to Clint Eastwood to consider Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Hayden Christensen or Josh Brolin in his place. Instead, Eastwood was able to adjust the filming schedule so that Damon could appear in both films.

Filming shut down for a month in December 2009, as Matt Damon was filming The Adjustment Bureau (2011).

The mid 80s-late 90's Warner Bros. shield is used and is in black and white at the beginning of the movie, and at the end of the credits, the same Warner Bros. Shield is used alongside the Amblin logo, also in black-and-white.

This movie was pulled from theaters in Japan after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit in March 2011.

In a February 2010 interview with the UK's 'Daily Telegraph', Clint Eastwood described "Hereafter" as "...three different stories with people who have gone through some sort of stressful time and it's about how they sort of converge together. Much like a lot of French movies have been in the past, where the stories kind of converge together, and destiny drives each person towards the other."

This is one of the few films executive produced by Steven Spielberg that has neither an Amblin Entertainment or DreamWorks Pictures symbol in the "Hereafter" ads representing his involvement. (The Amblin logo does appear at the end of the film itself.)

This movie was shipped to theaters under the title 'Heaven's Playground'.

The restaurant in which Thierry Neuvic and Cécile De France have dinner is Sanderens, the restaurant of chef Alain Sanderens, who became a sensation when he relinquished his 3 stars and reopened the prestigious Lucas Carton under his own name - and with a more affordable menu. Since then, the place has regained 2 stars.

Supporting actor Sarah Jane O'Neill (Rehab Patient) claims to be a real-life psychic and a world renowned Paranormal Investigator.

This movie was shot in exotic locations including London, Hawaii, San Francisco and Paris.

This movie premiered as a 'Special Presentation' at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, in September 2010.
