In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

The abandon car Mia is sitting on in the beginning of the film is a 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88, the same car used in the first two Evil Dead films and Army of Darkness. Sam Raimi also featured it his other films including Crimewave, Darkman, A Simple Plan, The Gift, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3 and Drag Me To Hell.
According to reports in the press, the film used 70,000 gallons of fake blood. In an interview, Fede Alvarez said they used 50,000 gallons for the final scene alone. This is compared to the 200-300 gallons used in the original.
