English actor Dan Stevens is popularly known for his role as Matthew Crawley in Downtown Abbey. He has received international recognition for his role as the 'Beast' in the Disney live action movie 'Beauty and the Beast'. Educated at Tonbridge School and trained in acting at the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, Dan has acted in several student drama productions. Dan was adopted by his teacher parents and grew up in Wales, England. He was first spotted by director Peter Hall at a Marlowe Society production of Macbeth, in which he played the title character alongside Hall's daughter. His debut performance had kick started his career in dramatics, after which he had starred in supporting roles in movies, where in 2008 he had appeared in the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's novel 'Sense & Sensibility'. He had received his biggest career for his performance in the ITV series Downton Abbey. He has essayed the role of the Beast in the Disney Live action movie 'Beauty and the Beast' which is being released in 2017 and is said to appear as David Charles Haller, the institutionalized son of Charles Xavier in the X-Men cinematic universe. Stevens married South African jazz singer and singing teacher Susie Hariet and has a daughter with her.
