The film won six Filmfare Awards, including Best Movie and Best Actor.

The film was offered to Shammi Kapoor who didn't respond immediately. Thinking he rejected the role, the producers gave it to Rajendra Kumar. Shammi, who loved the idea of the film, was shocked to hear from Rajendra that he had been signed for it. He had to plead with him to drop out and let him do it.

"Aajkal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche" is often thought to be sung by Lata Mangeshkar when it was in fact sung by Suman Kalyanpur.
