Amala Akkineni

Indian film actress, dancer and social welfare activist, Amala Akkineni is known for her works in the Tamil and Telugu cinema industries. She is the co-founder of The Blue Cross of Hyderabad and is inclined towards the welfare of animals and preservation of animal rights in India. Born to a Kolkata speaking father and an Irish mother, Amala is of Indian and Irish descent, the youngest of the three children and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Bharata Natyam from Kalakshetra college of fine arts. She was selected by T Rajendar who paved the way for her career in Tamil cinema. She made her debut in 'Mythili Ennai Kaathali' alongside T Rajendar after which she had bagged lead roles and produced blockbuster films by collaborating with superstars Kamal Hassan and Rajinkanth. Her performance in Pushpak, Agninakshtram (Gharshana), Nirnayam and Shiva solidified her career in the Telugu industry. She is married to Telugu superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni with whom she has a son, actor Akhil Akkineni and is the step-mother of actor Naga Chaitanya.
