Alippazhangal (1987)

A wealthy landowner, Padmanabhan Thampi, or Valliacchan as he is known by Shyla, his favourite niece, who has just returned from Malaysia after her education, is greatly excited by her arrival. Although Shyla has grown up in a westernised social environment, she is happy to enjoy the simple pleasures of village life, and indulgence in drinking tender coconuts, riding elephants and tractors, and plucking fruits. Valliacchan and Shyla share a close bond. At a critical juncture, Sudhir, and intense an idealistic young man comes into the life. Shyla is deeply impressed by how patiently Sudhir cares for his invalid mother. Despite his financial woes, he lives with integrity and never compromises on his values. However, as rumours of a romantic relationship between Sudhir and Shyla spreads in the community, Valliacchan is incensed. How will he react to this news? Who will help Shyla understand social norms in Indian society? Will the love between Sudhir and Shyla succeed in overcoming all the odds and will they unite in the sacred bond of matrimony?
