Agni Trishna (1989)

This emotionally charged romantic drama touchingly traces the trials and triumphs in the life of Avijit (Chiranjeet) a brilliant and dedicated doctor, who is completely committed to his search for a cure to cancer. He's so single-mindedly focused on his research that his fiancee, Sheela (Satabdi Ray) begins to detest it. Her hatred goes to the extent that she attempts to burn all his research documents and in the process, gets burnt herself and succumbs to her injuries.

Heartbroken and traumatised by this tragic event, Avijit suffers a mental break down. Please condition becomes so precarious that his mother Nirupamadevi (Madhavi Mukherjee) is forced to admit him as a patient in a psychiatric facility run by Dr Koushik (Ranjit Mallick) and his assistant Tripti (Rupa Ganguly), who are involved in a personal relationship.

With their care, attention and medical expertise, Avijit improves a great deal. Slowly however, he begins to fall in love with Dr Tripti, who is in love with Dr Koushik. Will the doctors be forced to sacrifice their love for the welfare of their patient? How will Avijit react when he comes to know of their relationship?
