Abhoya-o-Srikanta (1965)

This masterfully crafted relationship drama depicts the twists and turns in the life of Srikanta Chattyopadhyay, a serious man who embarks upon a journey by ship to Rangoon. Due to choppy seas, many travellers get sick and Srikanta tries to help those in need. One such person is Rohini Babu, who is accompanied by Abhaya, a beautiful woman and a distant relative of Rohini Babu.

Srikanta lands in Rangoon and gets a job. He lives in a hotel owned by Dathakur. Abhaya's husband Purna Chandra Guha had deserted her and married another woman. One day, Purna Chandra lands up at Srikanta's office in search of a job. When Srikanta realises the man's true identity, he informs Abhaya. Abhaya goes to meet Purna Chandra, but is turned away.

At this juncture, an epidemic of the plague begins to kill many people in Rangoon. Tragically, Srikanta also becomes afflicted by this incurable condition. Before going to the hospital Srikanta goes to meet Abhaya. Abhaya refuses to let Srikanta go and insists on nursing him at home. Srikanta confesses that he holds two women in very high esteem - Abhaya and Annadadidi.
