1946, Calcutta Killings (2018)

On 16th August, 1946, when Muhammad Ali Jinnah declared “Direct Action Day” with the help of Huseyn Suhrawardy, which launched the attacks on Hindus. Gopal Pantha took up arms to protect the sect. “Murder for Murder” was the cry all around the city. His contribution to save Bengal from the tight grasp of Pakistan is still written in history in golden letters.
Mohammed Ali Jinnah was the fascia of the Muslim League. His aim was to divide India to get a separate country for the Muslims, namely Pakistan. By proving a Muslim majority in an undivided Bengal, he demanded that as a part of Pakistan. For this sole reason, he declared the “Direct Action Day” on 16th August, 1946, to infuse fear among the Hindus and establish his rule.
Keeping resemblance with history, Shiva is a medium that brings out the scenario of that time. Being a Hindu by birth, Shiva fell in love with a muslim girl. To him religion was merely a word and so he protested. On “Direct Action Day”, he also met his maker.
Muslim girl Jara found love in Hindu Shiva. In spite of her previous beliefs, she later realized that love has no caste or creed. So she started reciting “Hanuman Challisa” at her home in without hesitation. She also lost her life during the massacre of the “Direct Action Day”. Being the hero of the story, Shiva and Jara proved that love always wins against all odd calls.
A mad soldier from Netaji’s ‘Azad Hind Fauz’ still believes that he would come back to take charge of the nation in peril. He loves humanity and not a certain caste or religion, so he fails to understand the difference between ‘Ali’ and ‘Kali’. He proves that people may sell themselves for their own motive but “Pagol” doesn’t bide by that.
