Miscellaneous
To escape Michelle has to break a padlock in the air filtration room that is locked from the inside yet only she was small enough to climb through the ventilation ducts to access the room and there were no other ways to access the room. The hatch into this area had become blocked, which is why Michelle had to enter through the vents

Miscellaneous
At the beginning of the film, when Michelle checks her phone while driving, the clock at the top shows that the time is 6:29pm. When she eventually wakes up in the bunker, the time on her phone still shows the time as 6:29pm

Miscellaneous
However, it is revealed that she has been unconscious for "a couple of days", so the time of days is not an error

Miscellaneous
The radio in Howard's very sophisticated doomsday shelter can't detect any radio signals, but Michelle's car radio easily finds them. The radio broadcasts are picked up at the end of the film, and due to their nature it is unclear whether they were being sent earlier, or whether Howard was being honest about there being no outside assistance given that he was keeping Michelle hostage

Miscellaneous
There are several things that signify that are anachronistic if this film takes place directly after or simultaneous with the events in 'Cloverfield': (1) Emmett claims that all the kids are saying "YOLO" these days. If the film presumably takes place around the same time or shortly after the original Cloverfield attack (May-April 2008), then very few kids, if any at all, were saying "YOLO", a term that wasn't popularized until 2011 by rapper Drake; (2) Michelle has a modern iPhone; (3) The registration on Michelle's car expires 07/2015; (4) Emmett's drivers license expires in 2018, etc... But there is no evidence to suggest that the events in this film are directly related to the events depicted in 'Cloverfield'. JJ Abrams has never confirmed anything other than that this film is a "blood relative" to the first film. The events may be related, but set years apart, or the story may not be set in the same fictional universe

Revealing Mistakes
When they are playing Milton Bradley's Game of Life, the board is modern but the game's box (in the background) is from the 1980s. That box came with a different style board than the one the characters are playing

Continuity
In the beginning, while Michelle is driving and on the phone with Ben, she is talking with him on speaker phone. On her phone though, the speaker icon is not lit up meaning that the phone wouldn't be on speaker therefore she shouldn't be able to hear the phone

Miscellaneous
When Michelle escapes outside and into Howard's truck and the attack from aliens starts, it is bright daytime. After fighting the alien, she runs into a house, but, moments later, when she runs out again, it's night." -The sun is setting when Michelle escapes the bunker and it slowly sets throughout the scene. Michelle never goes into the house, she is outside the entire scene (she briefly goes into the shed to hide). Also, the attack started long before Michelle left the bunker

Miscellaneous
Howard's cut does not suddenly heal between shots. It heals slowly and is a sign of the passage of time while they are in the bunker. Similarly, Michelle's nail polish is shown to slowly wear off. Both of these are meant to show that they have been in the bunker for longer than it may seem

Miscellaneous
Also, the blood on Megan's earring was not wet, it was obviously dry. However, the death of Megan/Brittany is purposefully debatable.

Continuity
From the opening scenes in her apartment until the musical montage where Michelle, Emmett and Howard are settling into a mindless routine, her nail polish is gradually peeling away. In one shot when she is moving puzzle pieces her nails are clean. In the following scenes the same nail polish is on again

Continuity
John Goodman was attacked by Michelle and he had to have stitches. He was left with a tiny red scar.. In one scene, he had Michelle follow him down a hallway. He had a bandage on it (the scene before, no bandage) and then the next scene, it was gone

Factual Mistake
When Michelle is on the road driving from New Orleans her registration tag is clearly a Texas tag and not a Louisiana tag

Miscellaneous
When Michelle finds a bloody earring that matches that worn by a girl in a photo Howard said was his daughter, Emmett explains the girl in the photo was really a local who'd disappeared some years ago. If the earring had belonged to that girl, it would not still be wet with red blood; any blood left on the earring would be dried and brown

Factual Mistake
Howard indicates that the shelter he built is "underneath my farmhouse" in rural Louisiana. However, the water table in much of Louisiana is so high that it would make the building of an underground shelter like Howard's totally unfeasible

Continuity
The amount of spaghetti sauce on Emmet's plate changes between shots during the first dinner scene

Continuity
When Michelle escapes outside and into Howard's truck and the attack from aliens starts, it is bright daytime. After fighting the alien, she runs into a house, but, moments later, when she runs out again, it's night

Continuity
When the infected lady comes knocking at the door you see her black Lincoln's headlights on and engine running. When Michelle escapes the bunker she starts the back car. The car would've died or run out of gas

Miscellaneous
When Ben calls Michelle, she s driving through the night, and the car's clock shows 12:14 am. Her phone claims it's 6:29pm though

Continuity
At the beginning of the film, when Michelle checks her phone while driving, the clock at the top shows that the time is 6:29pm. When waking up in her bunker, the time on her phone still shows the time as 6:29pm
Trivia:
Has a similar plot to Metal Hurlant Chronicles: Shelter Me (2012). A young woman, Michelle Ryan, wakes up to find she's in a bunker with a man, James Marsters, who has told her it's the end of the world. This episode is based on a story of the same name by Daniel R. Wickline and Mark Vigouroux in the anthology comic magazine Metal Hurlant, issue #9 cover-dated Nov/Dec 2003

During one scene, John Goodman's character is watching Pretty in Pink (1986). In that movie, Molly Ringwald's character has a hobby of making dresses. This is a subtle allusion to Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character in this movie, as she also dreams of being a seamstress

Emmet is only ever seen inside of Howard's bunker

The plotline of someone being held inside a bunker under the pretense of the air outside being polluted was also used in the second season of Lost (2004); in both instances, the deceiver eventually dies during an altercation with the deceived person. Both this sequel and Lost were produced by J.J. Abrams

During a conversation with Michelle, Emmet mentions Howard's theory about space worms. This directly foreshadows the physical appearance of the alien lifeform Michelle encounters in the film's ending

Although they take place in the same universe, the film has no apparent connections to Cloverfield (2008). However, producer J.J. Abrams has stated that the studio has a plan to tie the two films, as well as possible future films in the franchise, together

In one scene, Howard (John Goodman) is watching Pretty in Pink (1986) and Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.) mistakes it for Sixteen Candles (1984). Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays protagonist Michelle here, plays a character in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (2007) who exclaims that Pretty in Pink is one of her favorite movies

The film's life began as a script called The Cellar (which had nothing to do with the Cloverfield universe). The script was acquired by J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot and adapted to become 10 Cloverfield Lane

The slushie brand "Slusho" from the original Cloverfield (2008) also appears in the window of a convenience store in this film

The name of the gas station Michelle stops at to refuel is named "Kelvin". This is an Easter Egg J.J. Abrams slips into all his projects, a tribute to his maternal grandfather Henry Kelvin who owned an electronics company and influenced Abrams as a boy

A letterhead is seen with "Bold Futura" and Tagruato Inc. on it. This is tied directly with the films viral marketing campaign and the original Cloverfield (2008), as SLUSHO! and Bold Futura are subsidiaries of the fictional company Tagruato. Howard worked with satellites for Bold Futura in this film, Rob was going to Japan to work as Vice President of Marketing for SLUSHO!

Is not shot in found-footage form, unlike the original film

Dan Trachtenberg's feature directorial debut

Michelle's network carrier on her phone is 'BRT'. This is a shortened version of J.J. Abrams production company, 'Bad Robot

The first trailer for this film was screened before 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016), a Michael Bay film. The original Cloverfield (2008) also had secretive production and marketing with the first trailer being released before Transformers (2007), another Michael Bay film

The gas station (Kelvin) is the same brand from the sci-fi thriller Super 8 (2011) (which was also produced by Bad Robot Productions)

This film was officially announced less than two months before its release. The film had been completed without anyone knowing and the first trailer was shown during 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

A second trailer was delivered during Super Bowl 50, showing a car accident, the bunker where John Goodman's character has Michelle, and a strange light at the end followed by a monster roar

Bradley Cooper provides the voice of Michelle's boyfriend Ben on the phone in this movie

The original title for this movie was "The Cellar"

The gas station (Kelvin) is the same brand from the movie 'Super 8' (which was also produced by Bad Robot)

This film was officially announced less than two months before its release. The film had been completed without anyone knowing and the first trailer was shown during '13 Hours'

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was the first and only choice for the lead role of Michelle.

According to producer J.J. Abrams, this is considered a "blood-relative" to the original Cloverfield (2008).

The film's teaser trailer was released on January 15, 2016 by J.J. Abrams.

It is estimated to be released eight years after the original film was released.

John Gallagher Jr starred opposite Brie Larson in the 2013 drama Short Term 12. Larson also starred in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, which Mary Elizabeth Winstead also starred in as Ramona Flowers
